LEDELL LEE (EXECUTED 4/20/17)
On April 20, 2017, Ledell T. Lee was the first person in 12 years to be executed in the state of Arkansas. Ledell Lee was convicted in 1995 for the 1993 murder of Debra Reese. Ledell Lee proclaimed his innocence from the day of his arrest until the night of his execution twenty-four years later.
Lee was the first person executed after Governor Asa Hutchinson set eight executions to be carried out over the course of 10 days in April of 2017. Lee’s request for DNA testing, of evidence that could exonerate him, was denied by the Arkansas Supreme Court.
